Heritage Walking Tour – Early Schools of Robe

About the Workshop:

The Robe Branch of the National Trust of South Australia have been conducting heritage walking tours for some time, and this tour was produced from extensive research of around twenty small schools that existed in Robe from 1855. Many of these were in small cottages, and with teachers from an array of often unlikely backgrounds.

This is an invigorating walk around Robe seeing these heritage buildings and hearing the stories of these teachers and some of their pupils, with a script written by Robe Branch member and author, Liz Harfull.

There is a short 40 minute tour on Saturday and also a longer version of the tour on Sunday, which will include a visit to the Customs House. Both walking tours will start at the Robe Institute.  Participants need to wear shoes suitable for walking over uneven ground, and clothing suitable for the weather conditions.
